ANTIQUE INDO-TABRIZÂ RUG
Lahore, India, Circa 1910
132" x 102"

The design of this piece is based on a style of pattern originating from Tabriz in northwest Persia, hence the description Indo-Tabriz. The images, however, are typically Indian, and the arrowhead shaped flowers seen in the plants in the main field and border are typically Indian in tradition. The pale plum field is covered with meandering vines issuing palmettes, flower heads, and leaves within a blue plant and continuous vine border.
This rug has the traditional reverse knotting associated with the period and is a fine example of an Indian interpretation of a traditional Persian design.
