CATHEDRAL SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS, TAOS
Rick Preston-1996
22" x 20"
Rick Preston (born 1966, Miramonte, California) has described his photography7 as “visual haiku.” He strives to capture the essence of a subject in the simplest possible way. This piece was taken with his class Canon T2i and printed with ultrachrome pigment inks on hahnemuhle photo rag paper. This is an iconic image of the San Francisco de Asís Mission Church, a historic and architecturally significant building on the main plaza of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. Originally the center of a small Mexican and Indian 18th Century agricultural community. Built between 1772 and 1816 replacing an earlier church in that location. New Mexico was then part of the Vice-Royalty of New Spain. It is a fine example of a New Mexico Spanish Colonial Church, and is a popular subject for artists. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970. We acquired this image directly from the artist.
