ALISON BERGER GLASSWORKS LURE SCONCES

Alison Berger (by Holly Hunt) 2017

Hand Rubbed Bronze and Clear Glass

Alison Berger takes an open, unfettered approach to creativity, having worked in fields from architecture (in Frank Gehry’s firm) to entertainment (designing objects for a Madonna video). Berger fuses nature and architecture to create unique, iconic glass pieces. She studied glass blowing for more than 25 years and apprenticed with sculptor Dale Chihuly. Her innovative work is featured in the Corning Museum permanent collection and has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art and in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum's National Design Triennial. Each piece is hand blown, annealed for two to three days, and then hand-finished and, in some cases, hand-etched.  The two Lure Sconces in our collection are a luminous mix of hand blown glass and bronze hardware. They are inspired by the elegant simplicity of fishing poles, it uses a grommet and reel to hold the lamp line in place.
